Hair: Late Victorian

Victorian hairstyles changed a lot at the end of the era (1870's). Throughout. hairstyles that women were seen wearing began to reflect fashion at the time. For example, the shape of the dresses that women wore was often reflected in the shape of women's hair.

In the later years of the Victorian era:
- The curls at the side of the head dropped and became a lot looser. The focus was therefore taken off the plaits that used to come from the front of the head to the back.
- Their hair was a lot longer and mostly came to the chin.
- Curls were more prominent at the back of the head, rather than the front
- Fridges became popular, and some were even curly
- Accessories such as flowers were placed in the hair to help convey femininity and beauty
- Hats were bought forward and were a lot bigger. This was a lot different to the bonnets at the back of head
- Hair pieces were added to give the effect of more hair and volume. Women's hair was often too short to create any sort of bun at the back of the head, therefore hair pieces were popular.
- Men had very heavy sideburns
- Crimean war - men grew facial hair to keep themselves warm due to the harsh temperatures
