Chosen TV Series: Dexter

Dexter is an American TV series that was first broadcast in 2006. It continued until 2013, when it was announced that the eighth series was to be the last. Its key genre influence come from crime, action and mystery, with elements of drama and romance too. Originally written as books by Jeff Lindsay, creator and director James Manos Jr adapted the novels for television. Sometimes playful and often dark, the series focuses on full-time forensic scientist Dexter Morgan, who doubles as a full-time psychopathic killer. Dexter satiates his thirst for blood by killing those in society he believes have slipped through the justice system, but deserve repercussions for their wrongdoings.  From watching the series we learn that Morgan's mother was brutally murdered when he was only three years old. Miami policeman, Harry Morgan adopts Dexter and thus learns about his homicidal thoughts and his psychopathic tendencies. This is therefore where Dexter learns the tricks of the trade and begins his secret life of a killer.

Throughout its time, Dexter was nominated for a variety of awards. In 2011 it was nominated for the best TV series, best actor and best actress in a supporting role, however in 2010, Michael C. Hall won a Golden Globe for best performance in a TV series.
